On my February Professional Development day I attended a Multimedia workshop with Art Teacher extraordinaire, Lisa Chase, who teaches at Mark Isfeld Secondary in Courtenay. Amongst the cool and interesting things we did that day, it was the Artist Cards that really peaked my interest and attention. Artist cards are kind of like business cards for artists. They can use these 3.5 x 2.5 art samples to share with prospective buyers and/or to share with each other. Artist Card trading clubs are also making a strong appearance and there is one right here in Courtenay. Professional or hobby artists can take their cards to share and trade with others. The cards can be in collected in trader albums or be put on display on a wall. I set up our classroom/library in centers with a variety of themes for each center. We had ‘Crayon Pizza’ (melted crayon), ‘Mega Metal’, ‘Buttons and Beads’, ‘Stamps and Stencil’ and several others. The boys and girls had a wonderful time experimenting with the various mediums and are proud of their finished products. About a week later our Aboriginal Support staff member, Roland Ginger, came into class and taught the boys and girls the basic forms for First Nations’ drawing. We then made another card using these forms. Thanks so much to Jennifer T., Jennifer J., Gesa, Deb, Emma, Julia and my daughter, Alannah, for helping with the Artist Cards. Thanks, Lisa, for the great workshop! Our Artist Cards are on display by our classroom. Enjoy the slide show!
